crime and society

You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth. (Khalil Gibran)

Committing a crime is a game in which both parties fail to win in the end. Either party loses something they love or like. When the victim deprives of his/her life, identity or property, the culprits lose their freedom of life and soul the other way round, by being arrested or sentenced to death.

The person who involves in crimes bears the false belief that the action will never be revealed to the world. It is this fake hope that compels many individuals toward social crimes.

In the Sri Lankan context, religion and culture serve as a shield for the behavior and discipline of people. But the uncontrollable aspects such as poverty, ignorance, and irregularity of laws and rules give way for criminal acts. "Crime" and "rehabilitation" are not new terms to the society, as they go parallel but in totally opposite ways. When there are possible and reliable steps to prevent crimes in the society, the world does not need to go to extreme solutions like rehabilitation.

What is required is to identify the reasons and make positive changes in the system. This is, of course, one of the major goals of the SRILANKANKEY foundation.

The child is a target point for the majority of criminal incidents, as a simple brainwash can change their thoughts and attitudes altogether. The naivety and negligence of young people can be directed to accomplish negative intentions. The leaderships of the criminal world, quick and easy cash and also connections with top-level mobs may attract a youthful mind. This is dangerous because once you get involved in one single criminal act it never lets you out until you end yourself. Being unaware of what is happening around them, the young children willingly take part in underworld acts. Most probably, the criminal actions end in murder cases. So the child can be either a partner or the victim itself of a severe kind of criminal activity. The problem is, the power of money can often make the immature minds deaf and blind to the truth that they are only the tools in an unseen conspiracy.

AWARENESS

The awareness and knowledge we attempt to adopt in society are to save the young generation from such kind of devastations. The young mind should understand everything about the reasons for crimes, the ways they are exposed to crimes and the impact they make on society. They should be provided with a better understanding of the fact that smuggling, raping or murdering will no way help someone to overcome poverty or other problems.

Lesson of Humanity

The most serious problems in the human world can only be swept away with humanity. The first thing we should admit is that the culprit and the victim, both are human beings. The one who understands the origin or the reason for the problem will prioritize love and care because the understanding paves the way for compassion and kindness.

The SRILANKANKEY community contrives to approach the problem in its budding stage. Their main focus is on the child and the mindset of young people. This is, of course, effective to make a clear-cut difference in society. The majority of young children are targeted for criminal actions due to their lack of knowledge about society. They can be easily handled because they tend to believe what they see and hear. So that, the kids should be always watched. Love and protection is the best way to prevent the young mind from engaging in unethical and illegal actions. And also the child is naturally curious. When they don't know things, they try to find them and when they find a little about something, they want to try it. This can be used for both positive and negative intentions by the outsiders. That's where the attention of parents is utterly required. The sensitive and pure hearts of young kids can be taught about the value of conscience and empathy. The criminal acts may vary from smuggling, robbing, murdering and hijacking to cyber-crimes, identity thefts, and even terrorism. But whatever it is, it generates inside the mind. If the mind is trained to listen to your conscience, it will empathize with others, and that would be the ideal answer for all young and old people to stay away from unaccepted behaviors. Our SRILANKANKEY members attempt to expand this message all over society. Their projects and awareness programs are all about humanity.
